Bruce Hoard
Editor and Writer

Bruce Hoard has been an editor, writer and columnist in the technology IT industry for 27 years. During his career, he has worked on newspapers, magazines, newsletters and electronic media. His ability to continually conceive, assign and write compelling stories has made him an ongoing asset to his clients. Bruce started his career at Computerworld in 1980, rose up through the editorial ranks and was named founding editor of Network World in 1986. To this day, Network World remains one of the IT industry’s most successful and longest running trade publications.

He left Network World at the end of 1988 and began his freelance career by becoming founding editor of the Computerworld White Paper series, the first custom publishing program established by any IT industry trade publication. As founding editor, he worked with a wide variety of clients, and came to appreciate the value of always putting the client first. He also became a seasoned project manager.

At the same time he was editing the Computerworld White Paper series, Bruce became founding editor of Imaging World (later Knowledge Management World), a small publication dedicated to document processing technologies. At Imaging World, he was responsible for assigning and editing all stories.

As a member of the MVSI team, Bruce has produced many bylined articles, white papers and marketing materials for a wide variety of computer vendors and publications, including EMC Corporation, The Wall Street Journal, Hitachi Data Systems, Computerworld, CIO and Forbes magazine.

He has been editor of two custom publishing webzines published by Computerworld. The first, Windows Advantage, was sponsored by Microsoft and Compaq and covered stories related to the Windows operating system running on Compaq platforms. The second, SNW Online, covers issues relating to storage networking. Bruce was responsible for developing, assigning and editing all stories for Windows Advantage. He had similar responsibilities for SNW Online.

When Windows Advantage shut down, he became an associate producer for Win2tv, an online TV show that was a companion to the webzine. In that position, he helped shaped editorial direction, secured case study and analyst interviews and edited scripts. Creative, motivated, responsible—these are the traits that characterize Bruce Hoard.
